Missile interception debris led to the death of an Indian national in Abu Dhabi

The number of Indian nationals killed in the Middle East conflict has increased to at least seven.

An Indian national died on Thursday after being struck by falling debris following the interception of a ballistic missile over Abu Dhabi. In this incident, another Indian national, along with two others—an Emirati and a Jordanian—sustained injuries.

Another individual killed in this incident was of Pakistani origin. These fatalities occurred specifically on Sweihan Street as air defense protocols were activated to neutralize the incoming threat.

Although the defense system successfully neutralized the initial missile, the subsequent shower of debris over a populated area caused significant disruption and damage.

Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene to assist the victims and address the damage sustained by several vehicles.

In a post on X, the Abu Dhabi Media Office stated: “In reference to the ongoing follow-up regarding the previously reported incident—caused by falling debris following the successful interception of a ballistic missile by air defenses—two individuals, a Pakistani and an Indian national, have died.”

The death toll of Indians killed in the Middle East conflict has now risen to at least seven.

Since the outbreak of hostilities, the UAE’s air defense systems have intercepted 372 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles, and 1,826 UAVs.

The UAE Ministry of Defense stated that since Iran began launching attacks against its Gulf neighbors, 169 people have sustained injuries ranging in severity from minor to critical.

The Ministry further affirmed its readiness to counter any threat and vowed to “confront” any attempt to compromise its security.

This incident underscores the inherent danger posed by falling debris during high-altitude interceptions—even when defense systems function exactly as intended.

Consequently, Abu Dhabi authorities have announced that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses, while also reiterating the critical importance of relying on credible, official channels to prevent the dissemination of unconfirmed reports.
