FBI Launches Manhunt for Indian National in Mail, Wire Fraud Case

On Wednesday, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation announced that it has begun searching for Indian national Kalpeshkumar Rasikbhai Patel, who is accused of defrauding several victims between 2017 and 2021.

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) stated on Wednesday that it has launched a search for Indian national Kalpeshkumar Rasikbhai Patel for allegedly defrauding multiple victims between 2017 and 2021.

In a post on X, the FBI noted that Patel—also known as Kenny Patel—is approximately 35 years old and is believed to reside in or travel between Illinois and Pennsylvania.

It added that Patel, who previously worked as a gas station attendant, is wanted for his alleged involvement in a nationwide scheme to defraud multiple victims and induce them to transfer large sums of money between 2017 and 2021.

The FBI stated that numerous victims were contacted via telephone and deceived into believing that their personal information or identities were linked to criminal activity.

It further noted that victims were persuaded to send money—typically in the form of cash and prepaid debit cards—to various addresses located across the United States.

On June 22, 2023, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Patel by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky in London, Kentucky, following his indictment on charges of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.

The FBI stated that Patel is considered a fugitive from justice, and any information regarding his whereabouts should be considered significant and actionable.

The FBI has requested that any information concerning Patel be shared with a local FBI field office or the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
