Trump stated that he had “very positive” discussions with Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, adding that the ceasefire would take effect within six hours.

US President Donald Trump announced a historic 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, claiming that this marks the 10th war he has prevented.
He stated that he held “very good” conversations with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and that the ceasefire would commence at 5:00 PM EST—or 3:30 AM IST.
Writing on Truth Social, he posted: “I just had a very good conversation with the highly respected President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, and the Prime Minister of Israel, Bibi Netanyahu. Both leaders have agreed that, in order to bring peace between their nations, they will officially initiate a 10-day CEASEFIRE at 5:00 PM EST.”
He added, “It has been an honor for me to resolve 9 wars across the globe, and this will be my 10th—so come on, let’s get it done!”
Trump noted that Israel and Lebanon met in Washington, D.C., for the “first time in 34 years,” and that he has instructed Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Kaine to ensure that both nations achieve “peace forever.”
On Tuesday in Washington, Lebanon and Israel held direct diplomatic talks—their first in decades—following a conflict lasting over a month between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah.
In a separate post later on, Trump stated that he would invite Netanyahu and Aoun to the White House for the “first meaningful talks” since 1983. He also remarked that both warring parties desire peace—something he believes will be achieved “soon.” Hezbollah MP Calls Peace Talks a “Major Mistake”
However, Hezbollah MP Hussein Hajj Hassan told AFP on Thursday that the Lebanese government’s decision to hold direct talks with Israel was a “major mistake” and that Beirut should stop making concessions to Israel and the United States.
Speaking from his parliamentary office prior to Trump’s announcement, Hajj Hassan stated, “Holding direct talks with the enemy is a grave sin and a major mistake on the part of the government.”
He criticized the government for agreeing to negotiations—and for acceding to “US wishes”—before a ceasefire had been established in Lebanon.
