“True and lasting peace in the world rests on mutual respect between independent nations. We wish peace and prosperity for your country and its citizens,” Haasan shared on X.

After a senior US official said that Washington, DC, had “allowed” India to buy oil from Russia after the Middle East conflict disrupted global supply chains, actor-politician Kamal Haasan has targeted the US, saying that India does not take orders from other countries.
The Rajya Sabha MP and leader of Makkal Needhi Maiam wrote a social media post addressing the US President. He said on X, “Dear Mr. President, we, the people of India, belong to a free and sovereign country. We no longer take orders from distant countries. Please mind your own business to the best of your ability.”
Haasan further said, “Mutual respect between sovereign nations is the foundation of lasting peace in the world. We wish peace and prosperity to your country and its people.”
US Treasury Secretary and Trump ally Scott Bessant has said that the US has “allowed” India to buy Russian oil.
In an interview with Fox Business, he said, “Indians have been very good actors. We asked them this fall to stop buying banned oil from Russia. They did. They were going to buy US oil instead. But to ease the temporary global oil shortage, we have allowed them to buy Russian oil. We may lift the ban on other Russian oil.”
Trump was asked about Bessant’s comments and whether the US was considering any further action. He said, “If there were any, I would do it to relieve some pressure.”
Trump said, “I think the oil pressure—there’s a lot of oil. We have a lot of oil. We have a lot of oil in our country, and we have a lot of oil there. It will be fixed very quickly.”
The government has stated that India’s energy supply remains secure despite the ongoing disruptions caused by the fighting.
The central government stated, “Despite the increasing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, India’s energy supply remains secure and stable. India has diversified its crude oil sources from 27 to 40 countries, establishing several other supply routes. In the national interest, India buys oil from where it offers the most competitive and affordable rates.”
Officials also stated that India has never relied on any country’s permission to purchase Russian oil.
Following the US official’s “permission” comment, Congress has targeted the government.
Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi said, “India’s foreign policy is shaped by the collective will of our people. It must be rooted in our history, our geography, and our spiritual values based on truth and non-violence. What we are seeing today is not policy. It is the result of exploitation by a compromised individual.”
