Iran Reportedly Signals Sleeper Cells After Khamenei’s Death

The conflict has now reached its ninth day, and the change in leadership after the death of Ali Khamenei has done little to reduce the intensity of the fighting.

US intelligence agencies have intercepted encrypted communications believed to originate from Iran, raising concerns that the signal could potentially trigger sleeper operatives based outside the country.

According to a federal alert reported by ABC News, the transmission came shortly after the February 28th killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a joint US-Israeli strike.

The alert cites “initial signal analysis” that suggests the transmission “was likely of Iranian origin.”

According to an ABC News report, the signal was rebroadcast in several countries, a strange pattern that caught the attention of analysts who monitor radio-frequency communications.

The message itself was encrypted and appears to have been intended for those who already possessed the necessary decryption keys.

This type of communication is sometimes used by intelligence agencies or militant groups to send instructions without leaving a digital trace, as it does not rely on the internet or mobile networks.

The alert stated, “The transmissions may have been intended to activate or instruct sleeper assets operating outside the country of origin.”

“While the exact content of these transmissions is not yet known, the sudden appearance of a new station with international rebroadcast capabilities warrants heightened situational awareness.”

The alert stated that “there is no operational threat linked to any specific location.”

This comes as the conflict between Iran and Israel continues to escalate.

The war has now entered its ninth day, and the leadership change following the death of Ali Khamenei has not slowed the fighting.

The Israeli military launched new attacks on central Iran on Monday and also targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in Beirut.

These attacks came just a day after Israeli forces attacked an oil depot in Tehran. Iran has continued missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and countries hosting US military bases in the Middle East.

Two foreign nationals, including an Indian national, were killed when a projectile landed in a residential area in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations said the civilian death toll in the country has risen to 1,332, with thousands more injured.

The United States also confirmed that a seventh American soldier died while receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the fighting.
