Iranian Drone Strike Sparks Blaze at Fuel Tank in Kuwait Airport

Drones struck a fuel tank, igniting a fire, with officials noting the impact resulted in only minor damage and no injuries.

Smoke rose over Kuwait Airport on Tuesday night as Iranian drone attacks targeted the airport and other sites, just as the conflict in the Middle East approaches the one-month mark.

The Gulf nation’s Civil Aviation Authority stated on Wednesday that drones struck a fuel tank, sparking a fire; they further noted that the attack resulted in “limited” damage and caused no casualties. The military posted, X: “Kuwaiti air defenses are currently responding to enemy missile and drone attacks.”

In a statement, the Kuwait National Guard announced that its forces had intercepted six drones.

Kuwait Airport remains largely closed to commercial flights and has been targeted multiple times since the regional conflict began on February 28, when Israel and the United States launched strikes against Iran.

On March 14, the Civil Aviation Authority reported that the airport had been targeted in an attack involving “multiple drones” and that “its radar systems were struck.”

On March 8, a drone attacked a fuel tank at an airport; prior to this, an attack on a passenger terminal had left several people injured and caused some damage.

On the same day, Saudi Arabia announced that it had intercepted four drones in the eastern part of the country.

While striking Beirut, Lebanon, Israel stated that it was targeting infrastructure utilized by the Iran-linked Hezbollah group.

On Tuesday, Iran launched its 12th missile attack against Israel, while in northern Israel, air-raid sirens blared for hours due to rockets fired by militants in Lebanon, resulting in the death of at least one woman.

According to the Associated Press, the Trump administration had offered Iran a 15-point ceasefire plan, which was delivered to Iran by Pakistani intermediaries.

This proposal comes at a time when the U.S. military is preparing to deploy at least 1,000 additional troops from the 82nd Airborne Division to reinforce the approximately 50,000 troops already stationed in the region.

The Pentagon is also in the process of deploying two Marine Expeditionary Units, which will add approximately 5,000 Marines and thousands of sailors to the region.

Hinting at progress in negotiations with Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that there is an “ongoing” dialogue with Iran regarding oil and gas. A day earlier, he had told reporters that the Middle Eastern nation was seeking a deal to end the conflict.

“They gave us a gift, and the gift arrived today,” Trump said at the White House on Tuesday. “It was a very big gift—one of great value. And I’m not going to tell you what that gift was, but it was a very big prize.”
