Trump: First Iran, Then Cuba — Just a Matter of Time

On Thursday, President Donald Trump indicated that after the war with Iran ends, he may shift his attention to an unspecified initiative involving Cuba, the Caribbean nation that is already under a U.S. energy blockade.

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he would work on an undisclosed project for Cuba. Cuba, a Caribbean island nation already facing a US energy blockade following the war against Iran, is facing a US energy blockade.

“We want to fix this first and end it—but it’s just a matter of time before you and a lot of incredible people go back to Cuba,” Trump said at a White House reception.

Addressing US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Miami-born son of Cuban immigrants, Trump said, “You’re doing a great job in a place called Cuba.”

Washington has imposed an energy blockade on the communist-ruled country, whose fuel stocks have plummeted following the US takeover of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Venezuela is a major oil supplier to Cuba.

The island has not imported any oil since January 9, forcing airlines to reduce flights to the island and deepening a long-standing economic crisis.

Many in Cuba fear this could be next on Trump’s list of foreign interventions, especially after the US and Israel carried out an attack on Iran that killed the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Both Trump and Rubio have made no secret of their desire to bring about regime change in Havana.
