Rob Reiner and his wife were discovered dead in their Brentwood residence, apparently from stab wounds
On Sunday afternoon, paramedics were called to the LA home of the 78-year-old filmmaker and his wife, Michele.

Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle, were found dead in their Brentwood mansion on Sunday afternoon, according to authorities.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said that around 3:30 p.m., a man and a woman were found dead, aged approximately 78 and 68.
A source close to Reiner confirmed to NBC News that Reiner and his wife were the couple who were found dead with stab wounds inside the mansion.
LAFD paramedics were called to the home on Chadbourne Avenue around 3:30 p.m.
LAPD Deputy Police Chief Alan Hamilton said detectives are not focusing on any suspects or persons of interest until their investigation is complete.
Hamilton did not release the victims’ identities, saying the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office would release that information later.
“Before we can do anything here, we have to obtain a search warrant because there are some issues with standing on this property,” Hamilton said. “So once those legal requirements are met, we can continue the investigation.”
Hamilton said investigators would obtain a search warrant very soon and added that the death investigation would be handled by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division.
LAPD officers were dispatched to the home shortly after paramedics, responding to an “ambulance death investigation” report, which is LAPD terminology for when firefighters call officers after discovering a death.
Neighbors said that 78-year-old Reiner and his 68-year-old wife lived in the home, and property records confirm that the house belonged to them. The LAPD statement confirmed it was the Reiners’ home.
The filmmaking legend and his wife, Michele, married in 1989 and had three children: Jake, Nick, and Romy.
Tracy Reiner, Rob Reiner’s adopted daughter from his previous marriage to Penny Marshall, said she was speechless upon hearing of his death.
“I come from the best family ever,” Tracy Reiner said. “I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.” Local and state leaders expressed their condolences on the couple’s passing.
Mayor Karen Bass wrote in a statement, “Personally, I am deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Rob and his wife, Michele. I knew Rob and had immense respect for him. Among his many contributions, Rob helped create First 5 California, a landmark initiative funded by tobacco taxes to support early childhood development programs.
He and Michele championed early childhood development and marriage equality and worked to overturn Proposition 8. They were true champions of LGBTQ+ rights.”
Governor Newsom said in a statement Sunday, “Jennifer and I are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.”
“Rob was the big-hearted genius behind so many classic stories we cherish, from ‘The Princess Bride’ to ‘A Few Good Men.’ His boundless compassion infused his storytelling, teaching generations to see the good in others and in ourselves—and giving us the courage to dream big.”
Nancy Pelosi said, “The news of the violent attack on Rob and Michele Reiner in their home is deeply disturbing. It’s hard to imagine anyone more brilliant and accomplished in every field and endeavor.
Rob was creative, funny, and kind. And in all his work, Michele was his essential partner, intellectual force, and loving wife.”
Reiner is an Oscar-nominated filmmaker and actor, known for his films “This Is Spinal Tap,” “A Few Good Men,” and “When Harry Met Sally.”
