Iran War Nearing End? 45-Day Ceasefire Under Discussion: Report

The chances of reaching even a partial agreement within the next 48 hours remain low, especially given Trump’s warning to target Iran’s infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened.

Amidst the announcement of several deadlines by US President Donald Trump, a report claims that Washington, Iran, and regional mediators are discussing a potential 45-day ceasefire that could bring a permanent end to the conflict.

According to an Axios report—citing four US, Israeli, and regional sources—the likelihood of a limited deal being reached within the next 48 hours remains low. This timeframe corresponds to the deadline by which Trump has threatened to strike Iranian infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened.

Mediators from Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt are participating in these discussions, which also involve exchanges conducted via text messages between Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi.

Furthermore, the report quotes Trump as stating that the US is engaged in intensive negotiations with Iran and that a deal is likely to be reached before Tuesday’s deadline. He remarked, “There is a good chance; but if they don’t make a deal, I will blow everything up over there.”

Sources indicated that the US president wishes to give the ceasefire deal one final opportunity; consequently, the operational plan for a major US-Israeli bombing campaign against Iran has been finalized but remains on hold for now.

In a profanity-laced social media post, Trump threatened to strike Iran’s critical infrastructure—including power plants, bridges, and water facilities—should the 10-day deadline he issued on March 26 expire without compliance. Subsequently, he extended this deadline to Tuesday at 8:00 PM Eastern Time.
