Google will build a 1-GW data center campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, combining AI infrastructure, energy sources, and an extensive fiber-optic network.

Alphabet Inc.’s Google will invest $10 billion to set up a massive data center and AI center in India’s Andhra Pradesh, officials in the southern Indian state said, its largest investment in the South Asian nation.

Google will build a 1-gigawatt data center campus in the port city of Visakhapatnam, combining AI infrastructure, large-scale energy sources and an extensive fiber-optic network, a state government statement said.

The move comes amid intense competition among big tech companies, which are spending heavily on building new data center infrastructure to meet the booming demand for AI services.

State IT Minister Nara Lokesh said, “In an era where data is the new oil, such initiatives will act as a strategic advantage.”
