American Airlines serves more than 200 million passengers annually, with more than 500,000 passengers flying on its planes every day. In 2024, the airline also flew 2.1 million flights spanning 1.8 billion miles.
Despite clearly being busy, American Airlines has lagged behind some premium competitors, including Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, in terms of profitability. The airline has underperformed in part because it doesn’t offer the same level of premium experience.
The airline is working to change that as it makes improvements, including several new lounges and other upgrades.
The airline regularly changes its network to adapt to changes in demand, including the recent decision to permanently cancel some flights.
American Airlines is now canceling flights
Airline Geeks announced changes to American Airlines flight plans on Monday, September 29, 2025. According to Airline Geeks, American Airlines will be canceling the following flights:
Dallas/Fort Worth to Eugene, Oregon
Airline Geeks said the change was first identified in a schedule update from Cirium Diio. Cirium Diio is an airline analytics platform focused on the aviation industry that collects data and monitors air travel trends.
American Airlines has operated this flight since 2021, so this marks the first time in four years that passengers have been unable to fly directly on American between these two destinations.
When do American Airlines flight cancellations take effect ?
The flight connecting Dallas/Fort Worth and Eugene, Oregon, used to operate year-round but recently switched to seasonal.
As a result, it last flew on August 5, 2025. While flights would normally resume in the summer of 2026, this will not be the case next year.
Flights for the year 2026 will not operate, as American has removed it from its schedule for the upcoming travel season.
