5.9-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan, with tremors experienced across Delhi-NCR
The earthquake’s epicenter was located near Darawan, at coordinates 71.01° east longitude and 36.52° north latitude.

Residents of Delhi-NCR felt tremors on Friday following a 5.9 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan. The epicenter of the earthquake was located near Darawon, at 71.01 degrees East and 36.52 degrees North.
Tremors were also felt across Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, and Kargil. There were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage, and the vibrations were described as mild.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Friday that the event occurred amidst a dust storm, followed by light rain accompanied by thunder and strong winds across Delhi-NCR.
The Meteorological Department has issued an ‘orange alert’ for the South, Central, and New Delhi districts, while a ‘yellow alert’ remains in effect for the Southwest, West, and Northeast districts.
Rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is forecast for Saturday, with maximum temperatures expected to reach 33 degrees Celsius and minimum temperatures dropping to 20 degrees Celsius.
This marks the second instance of an earthquake striking Delhi and its surrounding regions this year.
The first earthquake occurred in January, when a mild tremor measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale struck New Delhi on a Monday morning, causing brief tremors to be felt across parts of the national capital.
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake struck at approximately 8:44 AM, with its epicenter located in North Delhi at a shallow depth of five kilometers.
